Randy Wolf hits 80th batter

HBPs of note: August 18th, 2010

Randy Wolf hit Brendan Ryan with a pitch in yesterday’s Brewers/Cardinals game, making that the second time Wolf has hit Ryan, and the 80th career plunk overall for the Brewers pitcher. That’s 10 plunks for Ryan. It was also the 70th plunk ever thrown by a Brewers pitcher to a Cardinals batter (90 have gone the other way). Wolf will be at the height of his batter plunking powers for his next start, because the full moon is August 24th, and Randy Wolf has hit 20 batters in games played within one day of the date of a full moon. That leads all active pitchers, and trails only Randy Johnson (21) in the last 25 years. I’m sure there’s a reasonable explanation for that.

Four different batters born in 1983 were hit yesterday, but Miguel Cabrera was the last one, and that made him the 700th plunk recipient born in 1983.
