Prince Fielder recorded his 60th career HBP, and Tommy Hanson move into the Major League lead in batters plunked, and they only need one pitch to accomplish both. Fielder is up to 13 on the season, and he is now the 3rd Milwaukee Brewer to get hit by 60 plunks in his career. Hanson’s 11 plunks this season are already tied for the 2nd most plunks ever thrown in a single season by a Braves pitcher since they moved to Atlanta. Phil Niekro threw 11 plunks for the Braves in 1979 and 1975, and he threw 13 plunks in 1978. But he had all year to do that.
Also in that game, Alex Gonzalez got hit by Kameron Loe, notching HBP number 70 for him. That was Gonzalez’s 1st HBP as a Brave, making him the 668th Brave ever to take a plunk. Loe’s was the first he’s thrown for the Brewers, making him the 271st pitcher to throw a plunk for that franchise.
