Chris Capuano falls short of 1000 unplunked batters

May 4th, 2014 by pbr

Chris Capuano hadn’t hit a batter since June 23, 2012, and he faced 980 batters without hitting any of them. But then he faced Josh Donaldson yesterday, and hit him with 90.5mph fastball. That was the longest active plunkless streak for a pitcher. But now Yusmeiro Petit‘s 886 batters faced without a plunk are the most (unless Rafael Betancourt comes back, with his 2,576 consecutive batter plunkless streaks).

AJ Burnett threw plunk 120 of his career yesterday, moving into 49th place on the all time list, tied with Doc White and Jack Powell.
