Beltran robbed of 41st HBP by instant replay

The Umpire said that Carlos Beltran received career plunk number 41 in the 2nd inning of the Red Sox-Yankees game yesterday, but Joe Girardi and the instant replay rule just HAD to get involved. The Replay umpires decided that Beltran was not hit, and the pitch was just wild, allowing Yangervis Solarte to score a run. The Yankees didn’t even need that run – they won 14-5, so Beltran got an HBP taken away for nothing. Or just for the sake of having a correct call. Or something.

CC Sabathia hit two Red Sox in that game, improving his total to 13 plunked Red Sox in his career. He’s the active leader in that category. The Red Sox now lead the league with 15 HBPs.

Pirates pitcher Brandon Cumpton delt out 3 HBPs yesterday, putting the Pirates in the league lead in hitting people. They have hit 14
