There were only 6 HBPs in yesterday’s collection of major league games, but some interesting ones were in that group. Carlos Quentin was on the receiving end of the 117th plunk of his career, moving him into a tie for 48th place on the all time list, even with Melvin Mora.
Yunieksy Betancourt became the 26th Brewer ever plunked by a pitcher named Joe when Joe Kelly hit him in the 7th inning of Cardinals-Brewers game, but more importantly, that HBP was number 700 in Miller Park history. Matt Holiday was on the receiving end of number #699 in park history earlier in the game. Wily Peralta threw Holiday’s plunk, making him the 289th pitcher to hit a batter for the Brewers. Holiday is up to 84 career HBPs.
