Only three batters got hit by pitches yesterday, successfully avoiding 4001 of 4004 pitches thrown in big league games. Josh Rutledge got hit by Randy Wolf, Howie Kendrick got hit by Ubaldo Jiminez, and Carlos Santana was hit by Zack Greinke.

Wolf’s plunk was his 101st, moving him into a tie for 82nd place on the all time plunks thrown list with Burleigh Grimes, Earl Whitehill, Frank Dwyer and John Lackey. Josh Rutledge had never been hit by a pitch in the majors, and is now the 148th player to get hit for the Rockies. That plunk was also the 11,000th HBP ever thrown by a pitcher born in California.

Ubaldo Jiminez hit Howie Kendrick for the 2nd time this year, and that was Jiminez’s 50th plunk thrown. Also in the game, Zack Grienke broke his plunk fast, hitting Carlos Santana after not hitting the last 787 batters he faced.
