103 for AJ and 101 for AJ

You know who got hit by a pitch yesterday?  AJ Pierzynski.  And 7 other people.  But Pierzynski is the only one of them who now has 103 career plunks.   Only 70 other batters have been hit by 103 pitches or more, and Pierzynski is the only one of them whose last name starts with P.  So he’s got that going for him.  It was his 2nd HBP thrown by Nick Blackburn.

AJ Burnett also played yesterday, and he hit Darwin Barney, which means Burnett has hit 101 batters in his career.  He’s 81st on the all time plunks thrown list, tied with Burleigh Grimes, Earl Whitehill, Frank Dwyer, and John Lackey.

Carlos Gomez got hit by a pitch for the Brewers, for his 2nd consecutive game with a plunk.  The Brewers are now up to 60 HBPs this year.  He got hit by Chuckie Fick, who had never hit a batter before, and was the 268th Astro to hit a batter.  There were two more plunk-firsts in that game, as Jim Henderson hit Steve Pearce and neither of them had an HBP to their credit.  Pearce is the 273rd Astro to get hit by a pitch, and Henderson is the 287th Brewer to throw one.  The Brewers have been hit in 4 consecutive games now, and this is their 2nd 4 game plunk streak of the season.  The Brewers haven’t been hit in 5 consecutive games since May of 2006.
