Anthony Varvano picked a bad time to throw the first major league plunk of his career. He hit Eli Whiteside to lead off the 11th inning in yesterday’s contest between the Giants and Braves. That plunk started off a 6 run inning, and the Giants went on to win 9-4.
Yeonnis Cepedes got hit by a pitch for the A’s yesterday, and that was the 1200th major league HBP ever recorded by a batter born in Cuba.
Aramis Ramirez picked up plunk number 95 of his career, and his 2nd on a pitch from Adam Wainright. Wainright also threw Ramirez’s 62nd career plunk on May 2, 2008. Ramirez’s Brewers have now been hit by 52 pitches this year, but yesterday was just the 2nd time they got an HBP on a Wednesday.
