Carlos Quentin has played 15 games this year, and he’s already one third of the way to the Padres singles season HBP record. Q! got his 5th HBP of the season yesterday, and his 102nd for his career. He’s now tied for 69th place on the all time list, with Orlando Cepeda. Tyson Ross contributed that pitch to Quentin’s collection of the ones that hit him.
Before yesterday, Rangers reliever Mike Adams hadn’t hit a batter since June 10, 2004. He snapped a streak of 1,289 batters faced without plunking any of them, until he hit Brett Wallace last night. That was the 2nd longest active streak in the majors, behind only Rafael Betancourt who has failed to plunk 2,311 consecutive batters. Yovani Gallardo now take over the number 2 spot on the plunk-free list for pitchers at 1,111 consecutive batters faced without hitting someone. Scott Podsednik also broke a long plunkless streak yesterday, getting plunked by Manny Corpas after 866 plunk free plate appearances.
