Kevin Youkilis gets 85th

June 4th, 2012 by pbr

Before yesterday’s game, the day of the year on which Kevin Youkilis had been plunked most often was June 3rd. He’d been hit 3 times on that date, but no more than twice on any other day. So yesterday must have seemed like a good day for him to pick up career plunk number 85, and his 4th on June 3rd. That plunk may have been a thank you note from the Blue Jays, since Daniel Bard spent the previous inning walking three batters and hitting Yunel Escobar and Edwin Encarnacion to give up 2 runs without giving up a hit. Encarnacion’s plunk was with the bases loaded, making that the 4th RBI plunk of his career. The Red Sox lead the majors in hitting batters with 29.

Kevin Millwood threw plunk number 73 of his career, hitting Dayan Viciendo. The Mariners pitching staff has now hit 21 batters, but the Mariners batters have only been hit 3 times.
