Prince Fielder achieves 80th plunk

Tigers first baseman and easy target Prince Fielder got hit by a pitch in yesterdays game, giving him a career total of 80. He’s the 153rd batter in major league history to get hit by 80 pitches.
That was one of three plunks collected by the Tigers yesterday, bringing their season total to 15.

However, that’s well behind the Fielder’s old team, the Brewers, who have been leading the majors in plunks despite Fielder’s absence. Ryan Braun got his 5th plunk of the season, putting him in a tie for the major league lead this season, and a 2 plunk lead on any other National League player.

Jeremie Guthrie threw his 50th career plunk yesterday, hitting Joaquin Arias.

In not getting hit by pitches news, the Seattle Mariners have now gone 26 consecutive games without getting hit by a pitch. That’s tied for their 2nd longest plunkless streak in franchise history. Their longest such streak is 29 games from May 17th to June 15th in 1990, and their only other stretch of 26 plunk free games was from May 26th to June 22 1980.
