Prior to yesterday, Jamey Wright had only hit 142 batters and none of them were Astros third baseman Chris Johnson. But Wright solved both those problems yesterday by plunking Chris Johnson. Wright has now hit 143 batters, putting him ahead of Frank Foreman and into sole possession of 24th place on the all time hit batters list. That the first plunking Wright has delivered as a member of the Dodgers, and he’s the 498th Dodgers pitcher to throw a plunk.
In Chicago, Johnny Cueto took a game against the Cubs as the opportunity to become the 9th pitcher in Reds franchise history to hit 50 batters. He hit Joe Mather for number 50, and then celebrated by hitting Starlin Castro two innings later for number 51. Cueto is tied for the major league lead with 4 plunks this season.
