Blue Jays get 1750th plunk

The Blue Jays franchise is now up to 7/8ths of a ton of plunks. Eric Thames got hit by Jeff Neiman yesterday, and that was the 1,750th plunk ever recorded by a Blue Jay batter.

Indians pitcher Justin Masterson hit John Jaso of the Mariners with the bases loaded last night, and later in the inning Jaso came around to score a run after reaching base on the HBP. That’s the first time this season that an HBP has driven in a run and resulted in the plunked batters scoring himself. The Mariners haven’t done that since August 16, 2009 when Josh Wilson got hit by Alfredo Aceves. Masterson’s plunk was his 39th, and it was the 40th plunk ever thrown by a pitcher born in Jamaica.

Brewers slugger Ryan Braun got his 38th career plunk yesterday, and that pushes him into the top 10 in Brewers franchise history. He’s now tied with John Jaha for 10th place among Brewers. That was Braun’s 20th plunk at Miller Park, and is the 5th players to have that many plunks at the Brewers home field. And, it was the 625th plunk in Miller Park history.

Also yesterday, David DeJesus got his 84th career plunk and Johnny Cueto threw hit Yadier Molina for the 2nd time in his career.
