bobblehead plunks

August 15th, 2011 by pbr

Reader Derek T. pointed out this morning that Craig Counsell got an HBP yesterday on Craig Counsell Bobblehead day at Miller Park. From a quick check of the promotional schedules posted on mlb.com’s various team pages, we know that Counsell is the first player this season to get plunked on his own bobblehead day. Nelson Cruz had been the previous closest attempt having been plunked on June 21st after June 20th was Nelson Cruz Bobblehead day at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. Perhaps the most surprising bobblehead honoree to go plunkless was on July 17th when Oakland had an MC Hammer bobblehead giveaway. It seems that despite taunting pitchers for 20 years now with the phrase “you can’t touch this”, pitchers have still been unable to plunk MC Hammer.
