22 for Q!

Carlos Quentin is now up to 22 HBPs this season, and 96 for his career after getting hit by Jim Johnson in the 8th inning of last night’s game. He’s only one HBP behind Minnie Minoso‘s White Sox record for single season HBPs now, and Quentin and Minoso are the only players in White Sox history to reach the 22 HBP mark in a season. Jim Johnson also hit Quentin in the 8th inning on April 23, 1999. That was the first time Quentin had been hit by the Orioles this year, meaning he’s now been hit by 11 teams this year (but he’s only 2nd in plunk variety this year, because Danny Espinosa has been hit by 13 teams). Quentin has been plunked 4 times in the 8th inning this year. His 22 career plunks rank ahead of the Mariners and Braves entire teams this year.

In Arizona, Miguel Montero got plunked by Henry Sosa, and that as the 700th HBP in franchise history for a Diamondbacks batter.

Mike Leake of the Reds hit Seth Smith of the Rockies, and that was the 100th HBP ever recorded in a game between those two clubs. It was also the 4,992nd plunk ever thrown by the Reds which leaves them one plunk short of the Phillies for the most ever.
