The last time a major league player got hit by 35 pitches in a season was 1986 when Don Baylor broke the AL record with 35 plunks for the Red Sox. 1986 was also, the last year that the US military bombed Libya. So… I can only assume, based on the available data, that in years when the US bombs Libya, someone gets hit by 35 pitches.
(History note: I’m not sure if there was any US bombing of Libya during the World War II North Africa campaign – I think that part of the project was mainly the British army, but I do know that no one got hit by 35 pitches in 1942 or 1943 when that may have happened.)
