Alcantara hit in 16th inning

Wednesday, July 30th, 2014

Cubs rookie Arismendy Alcantara took his first major league HBP in the 2nd inning of yesterday’s game against the Rockies, and he took his 2nd major leauge HBP in the 16th inning of that game. That’s the latest plunk of the 2014 season. 8 batters had been hit in the 13th inning before yesterday, but no one in 2014 had been hit in the 14th inning or later until Tyler Matzek hit Alcantara last night.

Ben Revere broke a streak of 817 plate appearances without getting hit by a pitch – Dilon Gee managed to be the first pitcher since 2012 to hit Revere.

Josh Willingham got hit by a pitch for the 109th time in his career, and the 2nd time while facing James Shields. Willingham is not tied with Manny Ramirez and Sherry Magee for 61st place on the all time HBP list.
