Aramis Ramirez takes 116th plunking

Monday, June 30th, 2014

The Rockies have now hit Aramis Ramirez 9 times, which makes him the active player who has been plunked most often by Colorado. Adrian Beltre and Jayson Werth have each been hit 8 times while facing the Rockies, but Ramirez has been hit one more time than them. However, Aramis Ramirez would need to get hit another 24 times to catch Craig Biggio on the list of batters the Rockies have hit with the most pitches. Jorge De La Rosa has now hit 3 batters at Miller Park, but this was the first time he hit a Brewer. Ramirez now has 116 career plunks, which ranks 52nd on the all time list, one behind Melvin Mora.

All four batters who were hit by pitches yesterday scored runs after reaching base.

Martin gets 10th of the year

Friday, June 27th, 2014

Pirates catcher Russel Martin took a 72mph plunk from Daisuke Matsuzaka yesterday to give hime a season total of 10 HBPs. He’s the third player to reach double digits in plunks this year, joining Pirates teammate Neil Walker. Also in that game Vance Worley hit Ruben Tejeda to give the Mets the 1999th plunk in franchise history.

In 40 games at PNC Park this year, their have been a total of 60 HBPs. The park record is 83, set in the 2001 season and tied in 2004. So the Pirates have 41 more home games to get 23 plunks to break the park record, or 35 plunks to break the live ball era record for most HBPs at a single ballpark. In 2005, 94 plunks were recorded at RFK Stadium.
