Tim Hudson hit a batter last night, making that the 104th time in his career a batter he was facing was awarded first base after a pitch hit him. He’s now up to 73rd on the all time plunks list, tied with Barney Pelty. Hudson’s 104th plunk was the 2nd of his career to impact David Wright. Wright is now up to 35 HBPs for his career, which leaves him just 6 plunks away from Ron Hunt‘s record for the most plunks in Mets franchise history. Hunt holds the Mets record with 41, but Wright is 5th behind Felix Milan (36), Cliff Floyd (37), and shoe polish enthusiast Cleon Jones (39).
Hudson’s plunk was also the 4,100th ever thrown by the Braves franchise.
Yesterday was Friday, which means somebody on the Brewers got hit by a pitch. Nyjer Morgan got plunked by Brad Lincoln, making that number 6 of the season for Tony Plush. The Brewers have now been hit 51 times this season, with 18 of those on Fridays. The live ball era record for plunks on a Friday is 20. That plunk was also the 199th ever seen in a Brewers-Pirates game.
