Ruiz gets 5th

Carlos Ruiz joined the crowd of players leading the league in plunks when he got his 5th HBP from Gio Gonzalez.  That was the third plunk in 4 games for Ruiz.  He’s now tied for the Major League lead with Carlos Pena, Travis Hafner, Josh Willingham, Shin-Soo Choo, Billy Butler and Ryan Braun.  For his career, Ruiz is up to 35 HBPs.

Brandon Crawford got a 12th inning plunk against the Brewers last night, meaning 3 of the 5 plunks this season occurring in the 12th inning or later have involved the Brewers.  There have been 16 extra inning plunks this year, which is more extra inning plunks than any other season in recent history through May 21st.
