96! Rickie Weeks breaks the Brewers franchise plunk record!

Wednesday, April 25th, 2012

Some said it was a retaliation for the previous game when Mat Gamel plowed over the Astros catcher, but that wouldn’t make much sense because it wasn’t Mat Gamel who got hit by the first pitch the Astros threw last night.  It was Rickie Weeks.  More likely, Bud Norris just wanted his name in the record book, and he got it.  He threw the pitch that became Rickie Week’s 96th career plunk, putting him ahead of Geoff Jenkins on the Brewers franchise HBP list, for a new record!  Weeks is the most plunked batter in Brewers franchise history, and just the 26th player in MLB history to get hit 96 times for one team.  It was Weeks 46th plunk at Miller Park, extending his own park record, and the 175th plunk ever recorded in a game between the Astros and Brewers.  The Brewers continue to lead the league in getting hit by pitches, with 11 on the season, and they seem to like getting hit on Tuesday’s because they’ve done that 5 times already this year.  The Brewers plunk total for Tuesdays this year is higher than 10 other teams full season total.

Paul Konerko got his 91st career plunk last night, from a Tom Milone pitch.  But he’s still 57 plunks away from the White Sox franchise record.
