Tuesday, April 10th, 2012

Only 5 batters were hit by pitches yesterday, but there were three HBP debuts among them. Eduardo Nunez of the Yankees took his first career HBP after 397 unplunked plate appearances to start his career. He’s the 547th batter to take a plunk for the Yankees. Kevin Gregg through that one, his 26th.
In Texas Yu Darvish made his debut, and made it to the third inning before he plunked Brendan Ryan. Darvish is the 35th player born in Japan to throw a plunk in the Majors.
And, Lendy Castillo hit a batter in his major league pitching debut, becoming the 571st pitcher to throw a plunk for the Cubs. The one hit Jonathan Lucroy, who now has 2 HBPs on the season, and that leads the National League.
Shin-Soo Choo also got his 2nd plunk of the season yesterday, putting him in a tie for the American League lead with Kelly Shopach and Yeonis Cespedes.
