First Plunk at Marlins Park

Thursday, April 5th, 2012

The Marlins and Cardinals inaugurated the new ballpark in Miami last night, with the first game of the season for the defending champs.  But the most important first of the night came in the 4th inning when Marlins center fielder Emilio Bonifacio was immortalized as the answer to the trivia question “Who was the first batter to get hit by a pitch at Marlins Park”.  Kyle Lohse hit him in the 4th inning, but then spoiled the fun by getting Hanley Ramirez to hit into a double play ending the inning before Bonifacio could become the first player to score a run after a plunk at Marlins Park.

That was the 69th career plunk for Lohse, and career plunk number 4 for Bonifacio.
