Justin Upton ties NL lead again

Tuesday, September 6th, 2011

Justin Upton is back in a tie for the National League lead in the HBP category after getting his 17th plunk of the season yesterday. Josh Roenicke threw that one, putting Upton back in a tie with Danny Espinosa. Upton is one plunk away from tying the single season HBP record for the Diamondbacks.

Alex Rodriguez got his 157th career HBP yesterday, moving him into a tie for 17th place on the all time list with Fernando Vina. That was his 85th with the Yankees, and he’s the 4th player to take 85 pitches for that particular team.

Dan Haren‘s plunking of Mike Carp yesterday was the 1000th HBP ever thrown by a pitcher born in 1980.
